“Yucatán Lions Welcome Baseball Legend Anderson Hernández to Coaching Staff for 2025 Season”

Veteran Dominican baseball player Anderson Hernández has officially joined the coaching staff of the Yucatán Lions.

Bringing his “claw” spirit to the team, the Yucatán Lions proudly announce the addition of the iconic Anderson Hernández to their coaching roster for the upcoming 2025 Mexican Baseball League season.

Hernández boasts an impressive career that includes six seasons in Major League Baseball, during which he played for teams like the New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Cleveland Indians, and Houston Astros. In 2013, he joined the Mexican Baseball League, starting with Campeche and later playing for teams such as Laguna, Tecolotes, and Tabasco.

Throughout his 16-season career in the Dominican Winter League (LIDOM), Hernández played 15 seasons with the Tigres. He earned the Rookie of the Year title in the 2005-06 season and was named MVP of the Finals in both that season and the 2009-10 season, a testament to his consistency and skill.

Hernández also played in the Japanese League, where his defensive abilities stood out. Whether at second base or shortstop, his agility and defensive prowess allowed him to cover large portions of the field, making impressive catches that showcased his talent with the glove.

As a switch hitter, Hernández held a significant advantage at the plate, accumulating over 2,450 hits and more than 900 RBIs over his professional career.

With coaching experience in the Dominican Republic’s LIDOM, particularly with the Tigres del Licey, Hernández retired from active play in the 2021-2022 season as one of the most respected players in his country. Currently, he represents the Dominican Republic as the first-base and infield coach for the national team at the Premier 12 tournament, held from November 9-14 in Guadalajara and Nayarit.

The Yucatán Lions also extend their gratitude to previous coaches Sergio Contreras, Gerardo “La Polvorita” Sánchez, Héctor Hernández, and Rogelio del Campo for their dedication and commitment to the organization.
